The following may not be the equal of an Aesop’s fable or quite as entertaining as something written by Hans Christian Andersen or the Brothers Grimm, but it does convey a message of sorts.

When I started out in this business, back in the 1970s, I would often leave Toronto and travel to the “hinterland” to make economic presentations before somewhat skeptical audiences.
Many times, I was told the old joke, what’s the definition of an expert? An expert is some son-of-a-gun from Toronto with slides. I’ve cleaned up the language a bit.

If you have any doubt about the dominant demographic feature of the population in the U.S. and Canada, just turn on your television set and flip through the channels. The population is aging. The baby boom generation is passing through middle age and beyond. Much of the programming is now aimed at the older generation. I call this “Old Geezer TV.” I can say this, because I’m an old geezer myself.

You’ve heard the terms blue collar jobs and white collar jobs. Now, somebody has coined the phrase “green collar jobs”. I wish I’d thought of it. This is in relation to employment on projects that have an energy-saving and/or public safety component. It also includes jobs servicing those projects or making parts for them.
